Instagram is one of the best places to scout out new companies – especially ones that (at least, you’d assume) have some beautiful fishing photography. Below are some of our favorite flats and fly fishing accounts on Instagram and a little about why (spoiler: beautiful fish and photos)…
Bonefish and Tarpon Trust
We might be a little biased (since we work with these fine folks), but BTT does a ton of good for bonefish, tarpon, permit, and flats fisheries in general. Since they’re able to collect imagery from lots of independent folks, they have some of the nicest flats pics out there.
Yellow Dog Fly Fishing
Yellow Dog focuses on fly fishing-specific travel. They’ve got photos from some of the prettiest places on earth to fish, so make sure you hit “follow” on this one for sure!
The Fly Fishing Nation
This mix of anglers, photographers, and guides guarantees stunning images and even more stunning fish. How can you go wrong with the originators of one of the most prolific fly fishing hashtags – #flyfishingnation?
Patagonia Fly Fish
You know Patagonia by their clothing, but this Instagram account is solely for fly fishing enthusiasts! It’s not limited to just the flats, but there are quite a few gorgeous flats pics mixed in this one.
SkinnyWaterCulture
SkinnyWaterCulture, as the name implies, is all about that shallow-water fishing. Between the apparel, events, and just fishing, these folks are worth a follow if you want to be in the loop with all things shallow water fishing!
Hatch Outdoors
Beautiful reels. Need we say more? No, but we will. Reels are pretty on their own, but Hatch has some of the prettiest around. (Their epic Instagram pictures aren’t too bad either!)
Derek DeYoung
Derek is not only an avid fisherman, but also a flats-focused artist. And a super great one at that! Follow Derek to not only get your flats fix, but be inspired by his breathtaking artwork.
Silver Kings
We had to include at least one TV show in here.. and why not the one that focuses on our favorite fish around here – the tarpon. If you’re into epic drone shots and beautiful filmography of tarpon getting hooked, this is the Instagram (and show) for you.
YETI
YETI almost seems too easy for one of these lists. Heck, you probably already follow them anyway. Why wouldn’t you? They have amazing photography, great products, and a passion for the outdoors (like us!).
Abel Reels
If there’s one thing you can’t get enough of as an angler, it’s beautiful reels. Abel reels are pretty and they’re quality. What more could you ask for?
The Drake Magazine
If there’s a fly fishing company that does it all, it’s The Drake Magazine. Between their long-form pieces, short essays, reports, and actually fishing, we’re not even sure how they have time for Instagram. But they do and it’s great!
Reel Local
How many ways could we get a tarpon picture on this page? Not enough! Beyond the artwork on.. tackle boxes?.. Reel Local creates all sorts of beautiful apparel, framed pieces, and just about anything you can paint a shallow water fish on.
World Angling
Most of the content on this account is actually video, so we’re not even doing them justice here. Go check out what these fishing guides and filmmakers are up to if you want to be inspired.
Nautilus Reels
Two reels companies just wasn’t enough, so we added a third. You get it by now, right? Beautiful reels + beautiful photography = follow!
Social Media Is Important!
While this was just a sampling of some of our favorite accounts, we can’t stress enough how important social networks are to marketing your fishing industry business. It’s a laid-back way for people to check out who you are, what you do, and what you stand for. Nine times out of ten, that’s more important than a listing of services or products you provide.
If you want to learn more about how you should be handling your social media (or want some help doing it), we’d love to hear from you!
